AKRON
Fugitive arrested
AKRON: An Akron murder suspect was arrested Friday, ending a pursuit by police and the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.
Kennard Gay, 26, was taken into custody by police, sheriff’s deputies and task force members at a Macedonia motel about 11:30 a.m. He was wanted on charges of aggravated murder in the Sept. 10 shooting of Melvin Coleman of Akron.
A Summit County sheriff’s deputy is credited with seeing Gay’s vehicle parked at the motel and calling for backup. Macedonia police, deputies and U.S. marshals negotiated a peaceful surrender, Akron police Lt. Rick Edwards said.
Gay also was wanted on charges of attempted murder and felonious assault in a shooting Aug. 18 in the 800 block of McKinley Avenue in Akron. He was listed this week among the marshals’ “Dangerous Dozen” fugitives.
